Haig Burnell has worked in music professionally in every state of Australia for over forty years either with the ABC, the state symphony orchestras, the opera and ballet orchestras, regional festivals, tertiary institutions, chamber groups, independent film, commercial television and sports organisations. Haig has worked in digital audio and video broadcasting with the Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert Hall, YLE (Finland) state music broadcasts, Radio and Television France, RBB (Berlin), IRCAM (Paris, broadcast surround sound), MicMac Music (France’s number two broadcast license), and BBC (London) among others.
Haig was invited to the very first live demonstration of DOLBY ATMOS systems in the Ray Dolby Theatre at Skywalker Ranch in 2012 while working on the west coast of the USA researching orchestral recording for video broadcast in different stereo and surround formats.
HaigelBagel Productions has produced audio CDs for prestigious labels such as Harmonia Mundi, BIS, Onyx, Universal, Chandos, ABC Classics, MSO Live, Divine Arts, Centaur, and is currently producing premiere recordings of all the Beethoven symphonies (newly published versions) for the Naxos label.
As the previous Senior Music Producer for ABC Classics and having recorded and broadcast across the country, Haig has intimate knowledge of classical repertoire, artists, organisations, venues, industry standards, industry rights as well as technical knowledge and expertise aligned to the very highest standards of recording and broadcast.
Haig was executive producer of the very first live broadcast of Opera Australia’s Ring Cycle, WASO’s Brahms Festival, ASO’s Icons of Sound series, QSO’s Mahler Series, TSO’s Mendelssohn box set among many others and has decades of experience as a broadcaster, producer and engineer.
Haig has been on staff at University of Western Australia, University of Adelaide, University of Melbourne, Flinders University, Monash University lecturing in music, production and PhD publication.
