Anna Fraser is a highly acclaimed Australian soprano known for her crystal-clear tone, stylistic nuance, and interpretative depth. Based in Sydney, she has built a distinctive career defined by expressive versatility and a commitment to both historical and contemporary performance. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and New England Conservatory (Boston), she spent over a decade as an principal artist with The Song Company (2007-1019) and now performs regularly with leading ensembles including Pinchgut Opera, Sydney Chamber Opera, Opera Australia, Cantillation, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Bach Akademie Australia, Ensemble Offspring and Ironwood. Her repertoire spans medieval chant to new operatic works, with roles in operas by Monteverdi, Rameau, Cavalli, Charpentier, and Purcell, alongside premieres of works by Mary Finsterer (Biographica, 2017 and Antarctica, Holland Festival 2022, Sydney Festival 2023). A dedicated educator and researcher, she contributes to the ARC-funded Discovery Project The Shock of the Old: Rediscovering the sounds of bel canto 1700–1900 and is completing doctoral studies on historical bel canto practices.
