With thanks for the ongoing support of our youth music education programs, it was with great pleasure that we presented the Young Mannheim Symphonists National ONLINE Winter Academy in July 2020, directed by Rachael Beesley and Nicole van Bruggen, and joined by conductor Mario Dobernig and guest presenters Professor Neal Peres da Costa and Anthea Cottee.

The Young Mannheim Symphonists 2020 National ONLINE Winter Academy was a virtual course for successful 2020 YMS applicants and all past YMS students. The students attended a series of online seminars presenting various aspects of historically-informed performance of 18th and 19th century orchestral repertoire along with discussions around performance psychology and career development. The seminars were presented by internationally respected experts in this genre. There was also historical instrument demonstrations and Q&A sessions with ARCO's co-artistic directors and the guest speakers and the students had access to private online tuition from principal musicians from the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra.

I have been enlightened by what was brought to me and I will use this knowledge from my very next practice session!

The information on historical style and interpretation provided practical techniques that can be implemented in future playing. Very eye opening - the information helps me approach pieces from a new angle and understand the composer’s intentions better.
