Founded under the artistic direction of renowned musician and educator the late Richard Gill and now under the co-artistic direction of Rachael Beesley and Nicole van Bruggen, the Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra is a world-class orchestra of leading Australian musicians who are dedicated to the performance of Classical and Romantic orchestral and chamber music repertoire in historically informed style on period instruments. This inspiring and highly influential period of composition from the late 18th and 19th centuries demonstrates the depth and passion of the time and when placed in context the music comes to life.

Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra is passionately committed to its education programs. The orchestra offers a unique combination of courses and projects for school and tertiary level students, development opportunities for professional musicians and music teachers, and enlightening presentations in tandem with its concerts. The orchestra’s youth orchestra program – the Young Mannheim Symphonists – brings together students from metropolitan as well as regional areas, from state schools as well as private, and from all over the country, and introduces them to magnificent music from a fresh new perspective. At a tertiary and professional level, our musicians offer tuition, workshops, and public master classes whenever they tour nationally.
